It was inevitable that I would spend my life being and doing something creative. I studied a diploma in interior architectural design after high school. It was during my studies that ‘ergonomics’ had a profound impact on my everyday life. As a result, I understood myself more.
From a young age I found pleasure in creating order and making things functional. Cleaning a friend's house or bedroom was internally rewarding. Why? When things are in order it can impact mood; it can change the atmosphere. Everything I think or do is fundamentally driven by how I can impact a human life, how I can make someone feel something, or enjoy an environment. Design is not just pixels on a screen. Design is what I do or create to achieve a particular outcome, whether that is an action or a feeling. This is the lens through which I now look at the world. This is what drives me!
Design has always been about putting a human at the forefront of what I do. Whether it’s drafting a floorplan, modelling a 3D render, building a physical chair (yes, I once won an award for furniture design) or simply crafting a digital product, it would be meaningless if not done for the purpose of impacting a human life. Being creative is not just what I do, it's who I am…
I bring a strong balance of product strategy, human-centred experience design, visual craft, and technical execution. My superpower is translating the complex and ambiguous into simple, intuitive products that are meaningful to end users and that move the numbers that matter. I know that great products start by understanding people deeply.
I've worn many hats throughout the years... designer, product, mentor, leader, visionary. I never compromise on ensuring both user satisfaction and business success are achieved. I’m continually refining my processes, my toolkit, and primarily building trusted relationships along the way. Naturally, as a result, I provide guidance, expert advice, strategic mentoring and design leadership.
Not only am I a designer, I am a husband and father. In my free time, you will find me spending time with my wife and son. I love comedy, laughing and making others laugh. Enjoying spontaneity, I love travelling, theme parks, waterparks and pizza. I enjoy trying new foods, visiting new places, and going away on weekend holidays as much as possible. My son happens to be a little golf prodigy and therefore we spend a lot of time walking the fairways of New Zealand's lush green golf courses, and playing some footy.
I'm originally from Cape Town, South Africa, and in March 2019, my family immigrated to Auckland, New Zealand. Now, after many years of hard work, commitment and a multitude of memories, we are officially New Zealand citizens, and for that we are eternally grateful.
